Google is known for setting the trends then be its search engines or YouTube. Early his year Google has launched an amazing product called Google glass. Although this product had its own lacunas but still, this product was well received by the veterans of Silicon Valley. Now towards the end of 2013, Google is ready to launch the updated version of Google glass in which they will be launching upgraded software and some unique applications. When the review came for Google glass most of the users found the following problems with them:
  • Very fragile design
  • Low battery life
  • Lack of cuter stealthier design
It is expected that Google will deal with all these problems in its updated version of Google glass and this product will be very robust however, the price is expected to be just same. So, I was the other day thinking of some small players who already have same product and they are very economical as well. This glass is also synchronized very well with all the social platforms specially twitter, Instagram and Facebook. In all honesty, this glass is lacking lots of functions which Google glass is offering.
#3 GlassUp: GlassUp again offers an amazing design and it can be used for e-mails, texting, tweets, Facebook updates etc. This glass makes sure that the user is always connected with the outer world. This glass has taken the concept of augmented reality to the whole new level and it is likely to give tough competition to so many apps available in Google glass. This glass can also be called as- enterprise solution provider.
#4 Vuzix Smart glassesNow this is not actually a glass because it’s an extension of your smart phone however, it has all the functions which other glasses are offering. The user can use social media apps, use this device as a hands free etc. This device is an edge which is providing a new dimension to augmented reality and mobility.

Angry Birds drains your battery faster

According to TG Daily Free mobile apps using third party services to display ads are draining users' batteries, researchers from Purdue University and Microsoft say. The team monitored the power use of Android and Windows Phone devices using a tool called Eprof, and found that up to 70 percent of the power used by free apps was caused by downloading advertisements and tracking users. In the case of Angry Birds, just a fifth of the power use was caused by actually playing the game, with almost half accounted for by location services used totarget advertisements. In addition, the team found that the game left 3G connections open for up to ten seconds after downloading information, accounting for over a quarter of the app's total energy consumption. But other apps were almost as bad, with the team finding energy wastage on all 21 apps examined, including browsers, newspaper apps and Twitter. There is a solution, say the researchers. "Most of the energy in smartphone apps is spent in I/O, and I/O events are clustered, often due to a few routines," they say in their report. "This motivates us to propose bundles, a new accounting presentation of app I/O energy, which helps the developer to quickly understand and optimize the energy drain of her app. Using the bundle presentation, we reduced the energy consumption of four apps by 20 percent to 65 percent."Source: Ananta-Tec

NASA Curiosity Rover Team Selects Second Drilling

The team operating NASA's Curiosity Mars rover has selected a second target rock for drilling and sampling. The rover will set course to the drilling location in coming days. This second drilling target, called "Cumberland," lies about nine feet (2.75 meters) west of the rock where Curiosity's drill first touched Martian stone in February. Curiosity took the first rock sample ever collected on Mars from that rock, called "John Klein." The rover found evidence of an ancient environment favorable for microbial life. Both rocks are flat, with pale veins and a bumpy surface. They are embedded in a layer of rock on the floor of a shallow depression called "Yellowknife Bay." This second drilling is intended to confirm results from the first drilling, which indicated the chemistry of the first powdered sample from John Klein was much less oxidizing than that of a soil sample the rover scooped up before it began drilling. "We know there is some cross-contamination from the previous sample each time," said Dawn Sumner, a long-term planner for Curiosity's science team at the University of California at Davis. different soil." Although Cumberland and John Klein are very similar, Cumberland appears to have more of the erosion-resistant granules that cause the surface bumps. The bumps are concretions, or clumps of minerals, which formed when water soaked the rock long ago. Analysis of a sample containing more material from these concretions could provide information about the variability within the rock layer that includes both John Klein and Cumberland. Clothes of the future: where hi-tech meets high fashion

It seems impossible to survive in the modern world without going either “smart” or digital, and clothes are no exception. The fashion industry is now working on technology to bring dressing habits to a completely new level. We're still in the stone age of nano-fibres and networked apparel but, in the not too distant future, you can count on having a coat which tells your mom where you are and having the Encyclopaedia Britannica embedded in your underwear! According to IMS Research, about 14m wearable tech devices were produced in 2011; by 2016, the global market could reach $6bn. Nancy Tilbury, designer to the stars and one of the creators of the futuristic Studio XO, predicts, “Generation Digital are constantly connected and live their lives digitally. Clothes are the next logical step”. Though thought of now as innovation, tampering with textiles and technology has been going on for over a thousand years. Artisans have been wrapping fine golden and silver foil around fabric threads since as early as the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. At the end of the 19th century, with the advent of electric appliances, designers and engineers sought to combine electricity with clothing and jewellery; the so-called Electric Girl Lighting Company hired out young ladies wearing light-adorned evening gowns to brighten up cocktail parties. In 1968, the Body Covering exhibition in New York City presented new fruits of the tech-fashion relationship, that is, clothing that could inflate and deflate, light up, heat and cool itself. In the mid-1990s, a team of MIT researchers led by Steve Mann developed the so-called wearable computers, traditional computer hardware attached to and carried on the body. The baton was later handed over to another MIT group, including Maggie Orth and Rehmi Post, who explored the plausible integration of such devices into clothing. Modern e-textiles are distinguished by either classical electronic devices such as conductors, integrated circuits, LEDs, and conventional batteries embedded in garments or fabrics, or by Internet connectivity. Smart clothes have many virtues: they are universal, customised, and eco-friendly. More than that, designers promise to make their dresses change colour by the mere touch and never wear out; I can see the last quality being debated by fashionistas though. Nanotech fabric will repel stains that normal cloth would absorb, thanks to molecular nano shields against stains, without changing the texture of the fabric. Digitalised and web-enabled apparel in health care, sports, and military service will, and already do, facilitate collecting physiological data and diagnostics. By now, smart textiles and Web-enabled clothing have passed the R&D stage and are on the verge of throwing themselves into mass production. However, many of the finest examples of this symbiosis already wow audiences with their alien hi-tech looks or versatility. Wanda Nylon makes transparent raincoats which can change colour like a bug's wing and are also 90% recyclable and totally nature-friendly. Another eco-friendly project is Orange Power Wellies, created in collaboration with renewable energy experts GotWind. The unique sole of these wellies converts heat from the feet into an electrical current, which can be used to re-charge a mobile phone. The more their owner moves, the more energy they generate. CuteCircuit a couture recruited by stars, specialises on dresses with hundreds of LED lights embedded in the fabric and USB rechargeable. The company made a statement by creating a powered dress which could receive and display tweets in real time. This Twitter Dress contained 2000 LED lights and 3,000 Swarovski crystals. It was introduced at the launch party of EE, the U.K. first 4G mobile network, the commissioner of this wonder-garment. Among wearable tech garments that do serve a purpose is the Hovding bicycle helmet created by Swedish industrial designers. It only inflates at the moment of danger, otherwise stowed around a person's neck in the form of a stylish shawl. The sensors gather data from around the cyclist and should danger present, a futuristic helmet of tough nylon covers the rider's head. Some designers are more hung up on devising ways of incorporating social networking in a dress in the discreetest way possible. Seattle-based Electricfoxy came up with a Ping garment, which can connect to Facebook wirelessly and from anywhere. Functions are performed by lifting a hood, tying a bow, zipping or buttoning. If a friend sends a comment or a message back, the garment will notify its owner with a tap on the shoulder. To surprise and stand out, any technology goes, based on the classic lie detector test, SENSOREE has crafted the so-called "mood sweater" which changes colour depending on mood through a number of sensors on the person's hands. When the sweater's owner is nervous, it lights up red and when calm in blue. The smart use of body heat was discovered by the Netherlands-based company Studio Roosegaarde, its high-tech garments entitled 'Intimacy White' and 'Intimacy Black' are made out of opaque smart e-foils which turn from black or white to transparent when exposed to body heat. Smart garments are not solely designed to turn heads, though, the armed services are one area in need of innovation. Smart uniforms will instantly detect gunshot wounds or even traces of nuclear, biological or chemical attacks in blood and sweat; they can report a fallen soldier's location with GPS coordinates and pass along other critical information for battlefield medics. Sensatex Inc. is already working with the military, emergency workers, and doctors to design what it calls a “smart shirt”; clothing featuring tiny microscopic wires interwoven with the fabric itself. This garment, turned into a communication device, could one day perform remote physiological monitoring or even heat up or cool down depending on the weather. "Throughout society, the ability to unplug from wires and utilise smart textiles to gather information through wireless communication will really be the textile of the future," said Sensatex CEO, Robert Kalik. The use of web-enabled clothing is vastly explored and introduced in areas like medicine and sport where continuity and precision of data are vital. Smart fibres are used to monitor systems in maternal and paediatric units where precise observation is constantly needed. Several companies, like Intelligent Clothing, are already engaging in these activities and create the first tele-monitoring systems, with Internet connectivity, for infants. A group of Ukrainian developers at the Microsoft Imagine Cup competition in 2012 made another smart use of smart fabrics. Their Enable Talk gloves help translate the sign language used by deaf-mute people. The glove sensors read gestures and translate them into words transmitted through bluetooth to a smartphone screen. Electricfoxy has developed the special MOVE technology for sports apparel which focuses on measuring precision in exercises such as yoga or pilates. The sensors transmit information to a mobile app which analyses the position and helps eliminate future errors. Besides, it stores all the information from previous training sessions to keep track of progress. It's clear that one day, while getting dressed in front of the mirror we might catch ourselves thinking how right the Star Wars author was. E-foils, nano cells, glowing LEDs and going online just by, quite literally, lifting your finger. People are however willing to go a long way in revealing their own physiological data; the fact that marketeers may be taking personal data and using it to support their advertising efforts might seem disturbing. When advertisers, and anyone else for that matter, have records of the customers' sleeping and eating habits, daily routine and physical activity and even certain medical conditions they acquire a certain power. The new service will become available in the first quarter of next year at the earliest. The eventual goal is to expand our social media service across different devices from different companies across different mobile platforms. Male sheep and female deer are dear mates

Beijing, December 06: Staff at a wildlife park in southwest China have turned to the country's half a billion web users for advice after a male sheep and a female deer began mating -- and soon became inseparable. A posting on the park's microblog posed the question: "What do you do when a ram falls in love with a deer?" It asked readers whether they agreed it would be "unethical" to let the unusual pairing continue. "They do not want to be separated but it is unethical to let them go on,"said the posting, addressed to users of China's hugely popular weibos -- microblogging services similar to Twitter that have taken the country by storm. The romantic liaison hit headlines this week after a local television station in the southwestern province of Yunnan picked up on the story, reporting that attempts to separate the pair had been unsuccessful. Mars Rock Touched by NASA Curiosity has Surprises

The first Martian rock NASA's Curiosity rover has reached out to touch presents a more varied composition than expected from previous missions. The rock also resembles some unusual rocks from Earth's interior. The rover team used two instruments on Curiosity to study the chemical makeup of the football-size rock called "Jake Matijevic" (matt-EE-oh-vick) The results support some surprising recent measurements and provide an example of why identifying rocks' composition is such a major emphasis of the mission. Rock compositions tell stories about unseen environments and planetary processes. "This rock is a close match in chemical composition to an unusual but well-known type of igneous rock found in many volcanic provinces on Earth," said Edward Stolper of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, who is a Curiosity co-investigator. "With only one Martian rock of this type, it is difficult to know whether the same processes were involved, but it is a reasonable place to start thinking about its origin." On Earth, rocks with composition like the Jake rock typically come from processes in the planet's mantle beneath the crust, from crystallization of relatively water-rich magma at elevated pressure. Jake was the first rock analyzed by the rover's arm-mounted Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer (APXS) instrument and about the thirtieth rock examined by the Chemistry and Camera (ChemCam) instrument. Two penny-size spots on Jake were analyzed Sept. 22 by the rover's improved and faster version of earlier APXS devices on all previous Mars rovers, which have examined hundreds of rocks. That information has provided scientists a library of comparisons for what Curiosity sees. "Jake is kind of an odd Martian rock," said APXS Principal Investigator Ralf Gellert of the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. "It's high in elements consistent with the mineral feldspar, and low in magnesium and iron." ChemCam found unique compositions at each of 14 target points on the rock, hitting different mineral grains within it. "ChemCam had been seeing compositions suggestive of feldspar since August, and we're getting closer to confirming

that now with APXS data, although there are additional tests to be done," said ChemCam Principal Investigator Roger Wiens (WEENS) of Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Examination of Jake included the first comparison on Mars between APXS results and results from checking the same rock with ChemCam, which shoots laser pulses from the top of the rover's mast. The wealth of information from the two instruments checking chemical elements in the same rock is just a preview. Curiosity also carries analytical laboratories inside the rover to provide other composition information about powder samples from rocks and soil. The mission is progressing toward getting the first soil sample into those analytical instruments during a "sol," or Martian day. "Yestersol, we used Curiosity's first perfectly scooped sample for cleaning the interior surfaces of our 150-micron sample-processing chambers. It's our version of a Martian carwash," said Chris Roumeliotis (room-eel-ee-OH-tiss), lead turret rover planner at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. Before proceeding, the team carefully studied the material for scooping at a sandy patch called "Rocknest," where Curiosity is spending about three weeks. "That first sample was perfect, just the right particle-size distribution," said JPL's Luther Beegle, Curiosity sampling-system scientist. "We had a lot of steps to be sure it was safe to go through with the scooping and cleaning." Following the work at Rocknest, the rover team plans to drive Curiosity about 100 yards eastward and select a rock in that area as the first target for using the drill. During a two-year prime mission, researchers will use Curiosity's 10 instruments to assess whether the study area ever has offered environmental conditions favorable for microbial life. NASA Curiosity Rover Begins Eastbound Trek on Martian Surface

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has set off from its landing vicinity on a trek to a science destination about a quarter-mile (400 meters) away, where it may begin using its drill. The rover drove eastward about 52 feet (16 meters) on Tuesday, its 22nd Martian day after landing. This third drive was longer than Curiosity's first two drives combined. The previous drives tested the mobility system and positioned the rover to examine an area scoured by exhaust from one of the Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft engines that placed the rover on the ground. "This drive really begins our journey toward the first major driving destination, Glenelg, and it's nice to see some Martian soil on our wheels," said mission manager Arthur Amador of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif. "The drive went beautifully, just as our rover planners designed it." Glenelg is a location where three types of terrain intersect. The Digital Future Of A Hotel Stay

Sam Daily Times: Our modern age is defined by our technology and how it's become a part of our day-to-day lives, yet when traveling hotels have struggled to keep up. Everyone from business travelers to the common vacationer has their life somehow linked to digital technology with iPods, smart phones, tablets, and laptops. Hotels, amazingly, are slow to offer a way for guests to plug-in and integrate with the hotel. Even something as simple as internet access is difficult to get without being charged a princely sum. Amazing because internet access is something that is freely available at coffee shops like Starbucks or even McDonald's now offers free internet access at many of their locations. However, some hotels are beginning to change by providing more ways for guests to plug-in. There may be a day very soon were guests could have a complete stay from making a reservation to ordering room service to receiving their checkout receipt without speaking to a single real person. They can achieve this completely by digital means.There are a couple of reasons for this change of attitude among hotels. One reason is that a hotel or a hotel chain can really stand out in the market by offering new and appealing technologies to their guests. A second reason is that early adopters of technology are an appealing demographic for hotels, not only because of their economic affluence but also their propensity to tell others practically immediately about their stay. A hotel with a significant technological component for the geek-set would be reason enough for them to brag across all social media platforms about their hotel stay.Social media is a great equalizer that both the large chain hotels and the small independently owned bed and breakfast can use. Consider how a guest can put up their own pictures from their smart phones onto Pinterest bragging about their stay. Or another guest tweeting in real-time how they are on Twitter using the hotel room's multiple monitors. Immediate word-of-mouth. An Example at Check-in: Taking concierge service into the digital age a pair of boutique hotels in New York are greeting guests at the door with an iPad carrying greeter. Using the iPad the hotel greeter is able to check-in guests and create room keys either in the lobby or in transit to the room. Not only does this service enable a more friendly and relaxed check-in, it also introduces the guests to the person who will be acting as their concierge for their stay. The greeter/concierge is easily made available by texting. One hotel in Hong Kong is doing away with people altogether. Check-in actually starts when they are picked up at the airport. The shuttle vehicle is equipped with internet access where people can both check-in and checkout without paper and without people. While these are just a few remote examples, they are a snapshot of the future of the hotel stay. An Example of a Room Key: One Las Vegas hotel is differentiating itself by providing keys that operate by using a sensor. While this is not new technology, as people have been "badging-in" at work for years now. The use of sensor keys as an access control to a person's hotel room is a new use of this technology. However, this being Las Vegas, the hotel does do some unique one-upmanship with it. As a person enters a room for the first time using the key, the room will turn on the lights, open the curtains, and turn on the television automatically. The television turns onto a list of controls that the guest can personalize for their stay. Also, the hotel not only offers but brags about its free internet access (or at least included in their room rate) which can be up to eight times faster than the other Vegas hotels. An Example of Entertainment in the Room: An upscale chain hotel in Seoul is providing a way for guests to plug in their equipment to the hotel room's audio and video systems at a single location. Then their video or music files can be controlled through the room's large screen televisions. Even one's laptop can be plugged into the system. This provides the ultimate of personalized entertainment, entertainment that the guest brought with them. A London hotel provides charging stations in the room's walls, but its true differentiator is that it gives guest an iPod 2 to use in the room. Also, the rooms come with 3D Blu-ray systems for the large screen 3D television. Of course, 3D specs are provided in the room for the television. Continuing that theme, the hotel also has a 103 inch 3D screen in the hotel bar with specs available there too. An Example of Things to Do: A hotel in Tokyo realizes that people come to stay in hotels but want activity outside it. Actually, hotels have known this for some time because ever hotel tries to tout its proximity to popular local attractions. So, in the digital age this Tokyo hotel provides walking tours of the surrounding neighborhoods via iPod. It even provides an iPod tour of the hotel's 1000 piece art collection. Should someone not have an iPod, then they can get one provided by the hotel. An Example of Reservations: One major US-based hotel chain is growing its app presence in the smart phone market, like those for the iPhone or Android phones. Their smart phone app lets people check for the closest hotels, availability, and the rates for those available rooms. This helps them gain more regular customers who will use the app for last minute reservations. Last minute reservations are actually growing as people are learning they can check for hotel availability from their digital devices (and often score the best rates for a last minute reservation). Microsoft launches 'So.cl' network

Microsoft quietly launched So.cl, an experimental site which brings together social networking, search, and media sharing to promote learning.
While the tech world was abuzz with Facebook IPO, Microsoft quietly launched So.cl, an experimental site which brings together social networking, search, and media sharing to promote learning. The So.Cl website, which looks a little like Google+ but offers a Pinterest-like board for users, was initially aimed at helping students share information for research purposes when it launched in private Beta as some US colleges last December. It is now available to all," reports T3. Microsoft expects "students to continue using products such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as well as Bing, Google and other search tools", but they hope to "encourage students to re-imagine how our everyday communication and learning tools can be improved, by researching, learning and sharing in their everyday lives", says a post on Microsoft's So.cl page. The new social networking site helps users connect with other people based on what they're researching. For instance, you can search for a query, tag it on to your board and also check out what others found and tagged on related queries. This seems to be Microsoft's attempt to add some depth and meaning to social networking.Source: Hindustan Times

Gadgets real and virtual

The Augmented Reality (AR) based glasses released on Wednesday can take photos, give voice commands and receive information like directions, weather etc., all in real time, by sensing the real environment. All this is too futuristic to be available any time soon, but surprising as it is, Indians are already using several such AR-based applications. AR browsers like Layar, Guino and Wikitude are already popular among smartphone users in India. From finding restaurants, new offers and sales, driving directions, weather updates, to latest tweets about a restaurant’s food, the smartphone users are already making the most of the augmented real world to search information. The information is not just limited to text, users can also watch videos, pictures almost everything that is there on the Web, all that by just pointing the camera towards it. “Augmented reality is a technology that combines the real and virtual world together. The Western countries have been using it for quite some time, but Indians are not behind either,” says Gaurav of Gamooz, an augmented reality developing company in India. Gamooz has developed several AR worlds like one for New Delhi Metro Rail, which helps one find train timings etc., Eventbrite Finder, which tells one of nearby events and My Property Finder for Layar that gives details about rents, flats on sell among others. A Hyderabad-based company developed a system that enables shoppers to try apparels virtually on a fixed screen.A mobilephone version of this is expected soon. “Just select the dress and you could see an image of you on a screen wearing the apparel. But that’s not it, if you are still confused about the dress, you can share a picture on Twitter or Facebook and ask your friends for suggestion,” says Hemnath Satyanarayana, who developed the system. The system that comes for anything around Rs 5 lakh, would be available in by the end of 2012. While geo-location based services like these are becoming popular the technology has several other uses. For example if you lost your car in the parking lot, Car Finder will help you get it back. All you got to do is point your phone’s camera towards the parking lot. Even in gaming, with Kinect for XBox, the distance between virtual and real has blurred even further. The camera recognises the hand movements and instructs the animated character on the screen to move accordingly. “The player himself becomes the controller,” says Aditya Sen, a gaming expert. Game Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13

BusinessDay: THE Tiger Woods golf-simulation franchise has come a long way. The latest instalment was released last week, just in time for the 2012 Masters Golf tournament in Augusta. I was a little reserved when I heard I would be reviewing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. It’s a golf simulation — how exciting could it be? How wrong I was. EA Games has created one of the best golf-simulator games yet. In the first Tiger Woods game I played, many years ago, you had to control the player’s swing with the X button. Not any more; you now have to use the left analogue stick to determine how hard you hit the ball. This, however, is not as easy as it seems. If you don’t swing the stick the right way, the ball will go in the opposite direction. This game is like smoking. The first time you think, ‘How good can it be?’, but then it swallows you, and soon you can’t get enough of it. One interesting feature in the game mode is called "Legacy Challenge", where you take control of Woods in the various stages of his career (but no, not during his recent media debacle). This will keep you busy for a while. However, the main feature is the career mode. You create your own player and start your career as a professional golfer. You then need to play well in all the tournaments to get better sponsors for your character. Two problems with this game: one, the loading time is extremely long. This will get tiresome. Also, while you are playing in a tournament, the loading time between the holes is also long. As soon as you’re getting into the swing of things, you have to wait for the next hole to load. Second, the character’s face isn’t as changeable as you would like it to be, so all players will basically have the same character. On the plus side, the game play and graphics are fantastic. EA put a lot of effort into creating the courses to resemble the real thing as closely as possible. Also, you get to play as any of a group of real-life professionals, including Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy, Jim Furyk and all the South African pros. Nokia's Lumia 900 Available Today


Bisarbeat: There's a new Nokia smartphone that has many techies intrigued, and yet the year is not 2005, about the last time that Finnish manufacturer could claim supremacy in the business. This model runs Microsoft software, which also last saw is heyday around then. This device from AT&T Wireless,  is  the  most  notable product of the Finnish manufacturer's decision two winters ago to bet its future on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system. WP7 owes nothing to Microsoft's Windows Mobile software. Programs and menus whoosh in and out of view with a glasslike smoothness, while the interactive tiles of WP7's home screen provide a simple and easily customizable overview of new text messages, e-mails, calendar appointments, app updates and other pending items. The elegance crumples once you plug the 900 into a computer. Synchronizing photos or music from a PC or Mac requires extra software, as does the simpler task of downloading photos taken with this phone's 8-megapixel camera. You can't even beam pictures to a computer via Bluetooth; like Apple's iOS but unlike Google's Android, WP7 leaves out that basic function. WP7 does fine syncing contacts and calendars to and from cloud-based services like Google or Microsoft. But if you use Microsoft's Outlook on a home computer, it's more trouble to sync that program with a Lumia 900 than with an iPhone. WP7's maps app only offers directions for driving and walking, leaving out the helpful transit navigation available at the regular Bing Maps site. The trim hardware Nokia wrapped around Microsoft's software qualifies as decent but not outstanding. The 900's 4.3-inch display looks great but is well below the iPhone's retina-display resolution. Its 16 gigabytes of storage can't be augmented with a microSD Card. Its camera did well with outdoor shots, but high-contrast exposures confused it. Battery life on the review unit loaned by AT&T didn't surpass other smartphones with fast but power-hungry LTE wireless. 900 kept 71 percent of a charge after 24 hours in idle. In a worst-case test, with its screen illuminated almost full-time and the Slacker Web radio app playing, its battery lasted 4 hours and 45 minutes. But when the phone ran down overnight and plugged it into a Samsung USB charger that other devices tolerate, it wouldn't boot up or resume charging. The biggest uncertainty over the 900's worth, and that of WP7 in general, is the iffy selection of Microsoft's 80,000-app Windows Phone Marketplace. Although such popular titles as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Yelp and Evernote now offer WP7 versions, their quality varies widely. Foursquare's artful efficiency has no match in Twitter's buggy release.  The Pandora Web radio app still doesn't support WP7. Even Microsoft's own Skype has yet to grace the Marketplace with a version of its video-calling app for the 900's 1 megapixel front-facing camera. Source Bisarbeat
