LG flexible displays will hit Europe in April after the South Korean electronics giant announced it had started mass production of a flexible, plastic electronic paper display (EPD) on March 29. The much anticipated 6" display is 0.7mm thick and has a resolution of 1024 x 768. It will first be supplied to ODM manufacturers in China before being made available to the European market this month. Sang Duck Yeo, head of operations for LG Display's Mobile/OLED division, said: "Based on our success in mass-producing plastic EPD, we are excited as we look toward applying concepts from this experience to future developments like plastic OLED and flexible displays." The display can bend at a range of 40 degrees from the centre of the screen, weighs 14g and is said mark a dramatic leap in durability when compared to existing EPDs. It is manufactured using the high TFT process, employed in LCD manufacturing, which has enabled LG to embark on cost effective mass-production of the display. Source: InAVate
