Steve Montgomery explores switching systems at the heart of large scale AV signal infrastructure; discovering the systems that can handle multiple signal formats, conversion and minimise delay.
As video and audio material becomes ever-more prolific and important within the business and commercial environment, greater demands are being placed on system integrators, AV, IT and network support staff. They are being asked to install, administer and fault-find larger and larger systems that are capable of handling and distributing greater amounts of data in wider ranges of formats; often with particular business-critical requirements. Manufacturers understand this situation and are responding with new products and features aimed at simplifying the whole process and that will accommodate future audiovisual formats, applications and operational changes. Overall there is a wide variety of equipment available so system integrators should be able to build a system suited to every set of requirements. Typical applications for AV switching systems range from government centres, large entertainment venues and transport facilities through auditoriums and office complexes to sports bars, churches and lecture theatres. They can range in size from 8 inputs and 8 outputs to 160 inputs and 160 outputs and more. Each application has different priorities and uses with a corresponding need for screens from small handheld mobile devices to large fixed projectors. Some facilities will need to encompass all types. To learn more about the products available and the future of signal distribution read the full article in InAVate Active .Source: Article
