By Natalya Kovalenko, There is a risk that the Apophis asteroid may hit Earth in 2036. If it happens the consequences will be catastrophic because Apophis will bring more destruction than the Tunguska meteorite, which fell on Earth in 1908, Vitaly Davydov, deputy head of the Russian Space Agency says. In 2029, the scientists will know exactly if the asteroid will hit Earth or not. In 2029, the asteroid, which is moving around the Sun, will pass our planet at a relatively close distance of about 30,000 km. Television switch off is the maximum threat for people in this case but when the asteroid enters the Earth gravitational field it may change its trajectory and 7 years later, when it will be moving close to Earth again, the catastrophe could happen, Sergey Naroyenkov, expert on space threats at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences says.
