By Gladkov Vladimir: Several days ago, the US House of Representative approved a law called Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA for short, which is aimed at protecting the copyrights of content published on the web. However, the law is facing much criticism from US human rights activists, who claim that it, in fact, introduces tough censorship and gives the authorities and private companies free access to private information about web users. This is not the first attempt to adopt a law of this kind in the US. In winter, several US organizations – first of all, the Trade Chamber and Hollywood – attempted to make the congress adopt a similar law called Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA for short. However, this attempt failed. Experts say that if adopted, SOPA would have been hardly effective against online piracy but might have presented a threat to technical progress. Source: Voice of Russia.
